Vampire Kisses: Blood Relatives, Volume I

The art is well done here, and that is half the battle, isn't it? The story is almost a caricature of itself--Raven is the penultimate goth-girl, and Alex Sterling the quintissential handsome and artistic undead.

"Even I believed it after I met him and fell in love with his dark, soulful eyes, so dreamy yet sad. After all, the proof was there. He was never seen in daylight, he had covered mirrors in his basement, and he told me he wanted a relationship he could 'really sink his teeth into.'"

The mystery here is thin, but entertaining, and the story moves so quickly there isn't too much time for complaining about the thinness of the plot. After the Twilight series, nearly everything is going to seem derivative, anyway, isn't it? This is show more sort of like the 21st century version of Archie and Jughead, really--they had even less of a plot, and we all ate them up (pun intended!). show less

I personally loved this comic better than the book version. Putting Vampire kisses into visual made it more interesting and gave it more depth.
This is fun for anyone who loves Manga or just wants to enjoy some god, old fashion, blood sucking fun!

This graphic novel just seemed way to short. The series feels like it starts in the middle of the story due to the way they breeze through Raven and Alexander's romance. I debate reading the actual novels to see if they feel more filling because the story was definitely interesting. The idea that vampires are born and that some of them are of mixed blood and can be out during the day and night time. I would think that vampires with the ability to be up during the day would be cool and highly rated, but apparently among the vampires they are slighted and seen as less then real vampires.

The last thing Raven and her vampire boyfriend, Alexander, need is another glitch in their relationship. But problems arise when a new gang of vampires, lead by Alexander’s cousin, Claude, show up in town. Continuing the relationship of 16-year-old Raven, the only goth-girl in Dullsville, this graphic novel is well written, well drawn and very enjoyable. In typical Schreiber style, Raven is entertaining and comical, but with unexpected depth. This GN can be picked up without having read the non-graphic novels. I would recommend this GN to anyone who enjoys a good creature-of-the-night-relationship read.

Ellen Schreiber has jumped into the realm of graphic novels. Her popular Vampire Kisses series has been picked up by Tokyo Pop and has transferred really well. Raven and Alexander continue their nighttime romance in their usual haunt, A.K.A the cemetery, and make the most of their time together. At the beginning of Blood Relatives they notice something strange while they are out on their date. Four empty graves are discovered and clues lead Alexander to believe that his cousin, Claude, has come to Dullsville. The only question is for what reason.Raven comes into dangerous contact with Claude and his three followers at school. Claude turns out to be a half vampire which allows him to go out in the daylight. Raven can't think of anything show more worse than them running free during the day when Alexander is stuck inside until the evening.It turns out Claude is after some blood vials that he thinks is inside the house Alexander is living in. He decides to use Raven in order to get what he wants. Blood Relatives ends with Claude telling Raven that she is going to help him get what he wants, even if it means betraying Alexander.My only complaint with Vampire Kisses: Blood Relatives is that it is too short. It really leaves you hanging at the end. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next volume. show less
