Carla Neggers is well-known for her romantic suspense novels. Some of the novels are more suspense than romance and then this one is definitely more romance than suspense. I enjoyed it. Although I would define it as romantic fantasy of high school sweethearts and 15 years later both are single, still in love with one another, and no encumbrances of former/current spouse and/or child(ren).
I really enjoyed this one. Great characters, lots of suspense. The one thing that bothered me was the feeling that there was almost too much going on all the time. It definitely made room for more books with these characters. Overall, I like this author.
Secret Service agent Jo Harper has returned to her hometown in disgrace after being pranked by the vice-president's son. Her old boyfriend Elijah Cameron is there recovering from a special forces mission gone sour. Winter is drawing in and sinister forces are at work.
Another good suspense novel from Neggers, a return to her usual form after her disappointing last several.

An American ambassador had been killed and his stepdaughter is fleeing from an unknown elusive threat in Black Falls, Vermont. Jo Harper is a Secret Service agent on leave in her home town of Black Falls for an embarrassing incident with the Vice President’s genius teenage son. The boy who Jo loved as a teenager and left her to go into the army, Elijah Cameron, has survived being shot and has also returned to Black Falls to recuperate. But something is going on in Black Falls...Elijah’s father has died on the mountain and he is determined to find out whether it was an accident…or murder. Jo and Elijah’s paths cross and they combine forces to discover the truth behind the deaths.
While I liked the chemistry between Jo & Elijah, show more there were a lot of threads in Cold Pursuit, some of which I thought were unlikely or farfetched or seemed to cut off abruptly. The dialogue between characters Myrtle, Grit & Moose was often choppy and staccato. I liked that the story left an open ending indicating the start of a series. There were a few times with Jo and Elijah where the storyline duplicated itself, crossing paths numerous times in the first day they see each other, saying the same things after similar events. Anyways, I liked the characters but was not truly engaged in the story.

I actually was given the second book in this trilogy and started to read it but realized within a few pages that I was going to like it and wanted a full background story so I hunted down the first book and I'm so glad I did.
This was pretty good. A bit slow in the middle but it really picked up at the end. i was a bit disappointed in the ending. There were quite a few questions not answered by the final chapter. Unless there is a sequal i will have a bit of an issue.
