Description

Hi, I'm Dorothy Ann, one of the kids in Ms. Frizzle's class. When we started learning about volcanoes, I thought we'd just be studying them in books -- but Ms. Frizzle had other ideas. She took us all the way to Hawaii, where we waded through lava and saw a real volcano blow its top. We had a great time -- even though the trip was sometimes almost too hot to handle! One thing's for sure: This was one explosive adventure that none of us will ever forget!

I used to love all of The Magic School Bus books! This is another fun informational book. I love the plot in this book. The author is also able to engage the audience with her fun ways to explore a topic. In this book, Mrs. Frizzle took her class on an adventure to Hawaii to explore volcanos! I think children can visualize being in a volcano in a magic bus, and it makes reading fun and entertaining. I also like the small illustrations throughout the book. They help keep children engaged and fuel their imagination with fun images. The overall message of this book is to inform children about volcanos in an educational and fun way.
This novel was a fun and engaging informational text. Throughout this book, Mrs. Frizzle’s class learns and discovers different parts of Hawaii and volcanoes. I love how in every book, the magic school bus shrinks. In this case, the bus shrinks and goes inside a volcano. In this volcano, the class learns about the effects of the earth on the lava. They also learn how volcanoes are made and how the lava forms. I love the illustrations as well. These illustrations tell the story and label every part of the important parts. These images help readers get a better picture of what the text is saying since there are a lot of parts in this science topic. Readers get to learn about volcanoes and see how important they are. This story was a fun show more story because not only are you learning about how volcanoes, and makes the islands when the lava erupts many, many times, or about the island of Hawaii but also, readers get to enjoy an entertaining story. The characters in this story are always eager to learn, even when one of them gets there shoe stuck in the lava, the more the characters are eager to learn in the story, the more the author can incorporate in the story to make it entertaining and informational. Overall, the purpose of this story was to entertain and educate readers about volcanoes. show less
I loved the Magic School Bus as a child and this would be such a fun text to include in my science literature! How fun would it be to read about volcanos AND EXPLODE THEM. I'm so excited to have a science class someday of my own.
I recommend this book to children who love the magic school bus series, and who want to learn about volcanoes either for a class assignment, or just for fun.
Science fiction for primary and early intermediate grades. Ms. Frizzle and her class travel to Hawaii to visit and learn about volcanoes. Includes plenty of facts about earthquakes and volcanoes. Media: Pencil
Age Appropriateness: Elementary
Genre: informational/science fiction
This is a great informational book as it give lots of facts, but it is also fictional (science fictional). It is science fictional because it involves time travel and it stresses scientific laws.
great books in younger classroom, and kids who want a series will like magic school bus
