I stopped reading around page 20. This is the start of a new series in the same universe.

The opening chapter was fine and got right to the action. But when the “real” story began I lost interest. The data dump to catch up new readers or refresh memories of those who read the previous books was convoluted and confusing. And frankly unnecessary. It could have been doled out as needed. Or perhaps a forewarnings or an appendix could have been added to fill readers in.

Life is too short and lately I have been ruthless about not reading books that don't grab me.

I stopped reading and will be donating this to a thrift shop.
