First Chapter Impression?
First off, this book sounds interesting. Twins, and one is a naiad. I had to look this up: its basically an elemental being, a water nymph according to one dictionary I looked at. This is described later, but I just didn't know in the beginning. In this case, her name is Cyrene. The other twin, May, is a cat burglar - and not a naiad. She seems very street smart. Cyrene - not so much. Cyrene seems like a bubbly valley girl. Interesting to see they are immortal.

More thoughts? At first, Magoth seems kind of sexy. I wonder if he is actually an evil demonlord, or just downright misunderstood?

Moving on...

Gabriel, he is the wyvern (another term I had to look up - two legged dragon with wings) of the Silver Dragons show more Sept. He is described as having a goatee and dreadlocks, and very sexy with a silky voice. However, I can't help but picture him as Bruno Campos for some reason. I think this is cause of the vampire in Twilight with the dreads. I don't know, its my own wierd association. But the author's description is wonderful, you instantly get the impression that he looks like the human version of a dragon.

Ok, so that's all in the beginning of the book, my first impressions. Wrongo!!!!!! Some stuff I was dead on with, like Cyrene being kind of bubbly and not so much street smart. As it turns out, May is a doppelganger created from the image of Cyrene. Cyrene gave up a personality trait to create her - common sense. This is clearly evident right off the bat!

As I've stated time and again, I don't like to give up spoilers. Even if you try not to read them, inevitably you do. Some people like the surprise.

May gets herself into a bit of trouble, and while trying to get out of it, she and her twin meet a group of dragons (enter Aisling Grey). I haven't read the Aisling Grey series (YET!!!) so this was my first introduction to Katie MacAlister's dragons, guardians, demons and mages...

I had just finished reading book #1 of the Dark Ones series from the same author, and I thought this may follow the same formula. This is definitely not the case! This book makes me say "Screw vampires, I want a dragon!!!" And this is coming from a girl who has spent nearly $500 in the past to put together the perfect vampire costume. My only wish is that I had realized that it would be tied in with Aisling Grey, and I could have read that series first. Minor thing to deal with.

Later on, after its discovered that May is in fact supposed to be Gabriel's mate, and he explains the importance of mating after May tells him she is bound to the demonlord, Magoth... well ladies, he is an alpha among alphas. An absolutely wonderful quote to show his immediate devotion, "His eyes promised so much. 'I will move the heavens and earth if you so desire.'" How freaking wonderful is that?!?! It's pretty wonderful! And then when this doppelganger and this Silver Dragon commence with the nakedness.... let's just say they are definitely going to need to invest in fire extinguishers! The lovin' scenes were very hot without being overly graphic. If you are after a novel that overuses all the sexual words, this isn't it. But you definitely feel like you are right there in the moment. But more important than the sex, you really feel Gabriel's devotion, and you are just waiting for them to profess their undieing forever and ever love for each other.

Then we come to the trouble in the book, the issue we have to overcome for our heroes to be together. I really don't know what to say without giving away too much... Watch who you trust, trust those you don't know if you can, keep an eye on your group at all times, and believe in....everything :)

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I read through it like it was on fire, no pun intended! And I am so glad it is not 2008 (when it was published) so I don't have to wait for #2. I just have to find it! There is a cliffhanger, as with all books in a series and as soon as I publish this review I am going to look up where I can get #2, Up In Smoke

If you loved Katie MacAlister's Aisley Grey series, then you'll be excited to see a whole new spin-off series revolving around Gabriel. I like the fact that this new series gives more background information on the Otherworld, the dragons, and Abbaddon. I also like having the female main character actually know things about the world (though Aisley's point of view always has me in stitches). Great well-developed world and characters, always quirky and almost always funny. The romance is hot and the mystery keeps you guessing, so I can't wait for more.
I got this book basically to read in my brand new Nook and it was the first true romance I read in a long time. It was amusing, if not really funny. I did like the idea that the dragons could switch between their dragon (true) form and their human form (especially during sex, which cracked me up). I also liked the idea of the lover being the one who can hold the fire of the dragon as the indicator of being a mate. I'm clearly not made for romances, as the extreme possessiveness of the men in this novel bothered me and sometimes I felt that the women were justifying (to the reader or to themselves) the possessiveness of their husbands/boyfriend/etc. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the book, because I did. And I'll probably read the rest show more of the series eventually, just not right away. show less
Ok, so this book maybe is more a 3-star than a 4-star read. But I had fun reading it. Gabriel was sexy and possessive in a good way. May pulled off perfectly than thin line between independent and woman-in-love and did not become wimpy and needy as it happens in some books. And array of weird side-characters only made this book more fun.
I accidentally read this book before Aisling Grey series, but I managed to understand what is going on... I planed to go back and read the prequel series, before continuing with this one, but this book ended in major cliffhanger, so I am now tempted to read the next book and find out what will happen. Decisions decisions... ;)
I just got my hands on the new Katie MacAlister novel, Playing with Fire, and I am loving it. Although, it did make me concerned about one thing. The novel is about the silver dragons, more importantly about Gabriel, the silver dragon wyvern. However, Aisling and Drake make several appearances, and this is what is troubling me. Aisling is pregnant (if you haven’t read Holy Smokes, what are you waiting for), and for some reason I am fearing that there isn’t going to be another Aisling Grey novel. Hopefully I’m wrong, but I am getting this feeling.

Anyway, back to the novel at hand. Playing with Fire introduces us to May Northcott, a doppelganger and a demon lord minion, and gives us more background information on Gabriel. We’ve show more all met him in the Aisling Grey series, but now he’s getting his own story arc. This is obviously a spin-off from Holy Smokes, however, you don’t necessarily have to read it in order to understand what is going on. MacAlister highlights all of the important information within the first quarter of the book, so you’re really not missing much (except for the courtship of Drake and Aisling, which was hilarious).

Playing with Fire is just as much fun as the Grey series, but it gives us a different viewpoint on the world MacAlister has created. We’re given more character development on a well known character as well as a new character that is just as engaging as the rest of the cast. The plot is just as chaotic and filled with twists and turns that make you think you know what is going to happen, but it turns out to be completely unexpected.

Overall, this novel is awesome and I can’t believe I waited as long as I did to read it. I thought I was in a reading funk, but I was so captivated by the story that I was able to finish it within a couple of hours. MacAlister brings all the fun and hilarity of the Grey series to the Silver Dragons, that even though it’s a new series, it doesn’t feel like it. It’s just from a new point of view. The second novel, Up in Smoke, is due out in October and I know I’ll be at the book store on that day to pick it up.

May is cat burglar my profession and doppelganger by none-birth, has hundred years of practice sneaking into houses and vaults to steal what her master, the demon lord Magoth, commands. After few unfortunate events she finds herself on the footsteps of Aisling Grey and her Dragon wyvern Drake. This isn't too bad but it turns out the Silver Dragon Sept Wyvern Gabriel is also there and by accident they discover May is in fact a Wyvern Mate, a rarity on its own, but even more rare as Silver Dragons a cursed to not have mates.

Gabriel has the normal dragon traits; highly possessive, volatile when provoked and fiercely protective, and once he has May in his hands he's not about to let her go for any treasure in the world. But as it seems May show more isn't that into the idea of being a Wyvern Mate which kind of boggles the Dragon mind, but no matter he'll turn her around - after all you aren't much a dragon if you can't get what you desire.

"You taste of the cool water that hides deep in a stream. You taste of the night air, soft and scented and mysterious. The taste of you drives me wild. I want to be with you, be inside you, shout to the world that you are mine at the same time I want to keep you hidden where you will exist only for me. You make me feel invincible, little bird."

May being a demon lord's minion hinders the two would-be-lovers until something gives. After all how long can a girl resist a gorgeous, steaming hot, totally committed dragon?

In the Katie MacAlister style this book is a hoot! Fun, witty, hot as hell and has you loving the male lead with vigor, I mean who doesn't love an alpha male bad boy. ;)

This is the first in the “Sliver Dragon” series, which continues some of the storylines of the “Aisling Grey, Guardian” paranormal romance series.
May Northcott, a doppelganger for a naiad, meets Gabriel, the head of the Silver Dragons, and there is instant chemistry between them. But May has been bound to Magoth, a demon lord, which might prevent her from a relationship with Gabriel. Add to that a theft, a kidnapping, and blackmail, and the fun never ends!
Despite an awkward scene with imps rehearsing a “Wizard of Oz” musical, the story is great and I was not prepared for the surprise ending!
