I struggled with the author's prose but I liked that there was this secret cave that you could only get to when you were a child, because after that, the passages were to small to get through. There are footprints in the cave from the others that made it there when they were a child. I believe it is only one family that knows about the secret spot. An adult shows the child but they can only lead them in so far before the passages get too narrow.
