I live near Rochester, NY and this has been on my shelves forever. Now that we are retired I thought it was time to read this and make a list of some of these areas near home to start exploring. Some here we have already done: Chimney Bluffs, Montezuma, Red Creek and Taughannock Falls. McDermott Hill and Cuyler Hill are both near Cortland so we will make a weekend getaway out of that one and another getaway to Skaneateles for Bear Creek. The book was written in 1979, so I'm sure there are some changes since it was published, but most of these are state parks and state forest areas so the trails should be similar although some landmarks may have changed. Good advice on access points, layout of the trail, terrain and local winter show more activities if you are into cross country skiing. There is a map, the trail length and average walking time for each entry. New York is beautiful, I recommend a visit for everyone. show less
