This book, published by STITCH and the Maquila Solidarity Network, contains translated interviews with women workers at maquilas and banana plantations who were/are involved in union organizing.
The interviews cover each woman's background, how she got into maquila or banana work, the conditions of this work, how she got into unionizing, and the consequences of this. It is wonderful to have these women's voices accessible to a wider audience. Their moving narratives, their strength, and the bare and terrible facts they present are sure to make anyone think who benefits from maquila or plantation work.
The maquiladoras are Marie Mejia, Laya and Monica Felipe Alvarez of Guatemala and Yesenia Bonilla and Reina Ramos of Honduras. The banana show more workers are Yolanda Cruz of Guatemala and Guadelupe Martinez and Alma Doris Mejia of Honduras. show less
