As rough as this book was, I think it’s my favorite of the series. I loved Elle and Jackson’s bond and their backstory, and how that tied into the aftermath of her captivity. I never guessed Jackson would be my favorite love interest of the series, but he definitely is. His tenderness with Elle was incredibly moving, and it was a nice touch to see how he was quietly looking out for his neighbors, despite his loner reputation.
Trigger warning for this one—there’s rape and torture, and the first several chapters are hard to take. I couldn’t believe Feehan let one of her characters go through so much, but maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised after what happened to Hannah in her book. So if it will hurt to read something like show more that, don’t. Or skip to the rescue and start there, because the rescue is awesome, as is the wedding at the end.
The themes of family loyalty and love were strong in this one, with all the sisters and their men back in Sea Haven, doing whatever they could to help Elle heal. It was great to have them all together so much, and see how the men have become brothers and allies to each other as well as to their sisters-in-law.
It looks like I could continue on in Sea Haven for a while longer, as apparently Ilya’s brothers each show up in a different series. I think I need a break from all the hot sex and heavy emotion for a while—not to mention Russian mobsters—so Sisters of the Heart will have to wait. It’s good to know Feehan and her million books will be there when I need her again.

Opening Sentence: ‘…“Having fun, Sheena?“ Stavros Gratsos rubbed his palms up and down Ellen Drake’s bare arems to warm her as he stood behind her at the railing of his large yacht …’

Ellen Drake is the youngest of the magical Drake sisters – and the fate of the Drake family rest squarely on her shoulders. It is Ellen who is destined to birth the next generation of seven sisters. She has always known this and although she accepts her fate she has been resisting for as long as she can. Jackson is destined to be her mate however she has also been resisting him. He has a damaged soul as he was a prisoner of war for many years and survived ongoing torture and derogations due to a telepathic connection with Ellen. This show more connection kept him sane. So when Ellen disappears Jackson feels as though his world has ended.

While undercover Ellen is kidnapped by Stavros Gratsos – she is held hostage, raped, degraded, tortured and beated. Jackson locates her telapathically and a rescue is carried out by the Drake sisters and their connections. Ellen has been brought to the edge – damaged almost beyond repair. Jackson and her sisters won’t give up on her. Gradually love, magic and Ellen’s own strength of character bring her back from the brink and justice is served.

The first quarter of the book is hard to read. But there is a point to it and Christine Feehan makes this clear – millions of women across the world go through what Ellen did – but there is no-one to come to their aid. Stavros represents the many men who kidnap, enslave and physically and mentally abuse women. It is a harsh way to get the message across – but it needs to be said. If it upsets a few women then tough – they should be glad that they only have to read about it – not endure.

HIDDEN CURRENTS is a thought-provoking, gutsy, well-crafted book. With an edge of the seat plot, a happy and romantic ending, and threads are all tied up – as a final book in a series should.

Hidden Currents is book 7 (the final installment, perhaps...) of Christine Feehan's enjoyable Drake Sisters series. In it, we find the story of the youngest sister Elle Drake, and the man destined to help her shoulder the intimidating Drake legacy, Jackson Deveau.

Years ago, as Jackson lay in enemy hands, tortured and broken, Elle filled his mind and shared her psychic energy and strength with him to save his soul. After his escape, Jackson moved to Sea Haven with his friend Jonas Harrington to meet Elle. For years, he has lived on the outskirts of her life, afraid that Elle will never be able to accept the violence that taints him, terrified of the Drake legacy, until the day comes that he must save her life.

Working undercover to show more bring down a powerful human trafficking ring, Elle is taken prisoner by a strong psychic. She must trust that Jackson and her sisters will come for her, as she endures sadistic torture from a violent man determined to break her spirit, dominate her life, and control her.

Hidden Currents is the most disturbing installment yet in the Drake Sisters saga. The first six chapters are full of shocking details of Elle's kidnap and the subsequent physical and psychological torture she experienced at the hands of a madman. It is sickening and alarming, and is really difficult to read. In fact, I put the book down for a few days after reading those chapters - I was simply overwhelmed. But once I picked it back up, I couldn't put it down. Elle and Jackson are very powerful couple with a dynamic story.

I was happy to see the other sisters and their husbands/fiancés in Hidden Currents as well. Feehan always does an incredible job of tying her characters together with characters from other books in her series, and I am always ready to embrace them and find out what they've been up to.

As the last book in this series, Hidden Currents doesn't quite live up to the earlier books. Don't get me wrong, everything ends neatly, but it seemed as if something was missing. Perhaps Feehan was trying to leave an opening for further books - maybe from the perspective of Ilya's brothers? I suppose we'll have to stay tuned to see if anything comes from that.

Elle Drake is the youngest of the seven Drake sisters and we’ve known all along that Sheriff Jackson Deveau has been destined to love her. Still knowing that she is next in line to find love - since all her sisters have now paired up with their significant others - she is farther away from home and Jackson then ever. Elle is working as undercover agent and is involved with a very dangerous and powerful man. When Elle fails to arrive home, her disappearance leaves Jackson and those witchy sisters of hers no option but to find her and rescue her from an unseen danger. But Sea Haven is no longer safe for anyone, and it will take the powers of all the Drake sisters and their men to survive the oncoming storm.

This is the final book in the show more Drake Sisters series (one of my favorite CF series, I might add). You all know what a sucker I am for Christine Feehan’s books and although this wasn’t what I would consider her normal type of story - this was definitely a good closing for a fantastic series. Elle and Jackson were so needy of each other - their love was poignant and just a beautiful thing to read about. I loved that we finally get Jackson’s story - we’ve known all along that he had been held prisoner against his will and we finally get to see how that affected him and makes him the quiet, brooding man that he is today. Elle’s experience was just as heart-wrenching and unfathomable as his. They are kindred spirits who used those negative experiences to help heal and eventually make them a force to be reckoned with.

I will forewarn, this is not for the faint of heart - there are scenes of rape and torture and although these scenes were explicit in nature, I am glad Ms. Feehan did not gloss or sugar coat them. I did feel that Elle’s recovery to such severe trauma was quick and not very realistic - but in the end we must just take it as it is and come to the realization that it is romantic fiction.

To anyone picking this series up for the first time, I would recommend you start from the beginning with Sarah’s story - only because you come to love and cherish each sister independently.

With that said, I am sad that this series has finally come to an end - but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that there will be a new series featuring Ilya’s brothers (which might not be too far fetched since one of them did have a cameo in this story). I really enjoyed seeing where the other sisters were in their lives and, of course, those sexy men we’ve all fallen in love with along the way. This was dark and edgy - but also full of love, hope and forgiveness. A fantastic read and highly recommended to romance lovers.

This book was the best in the series. It was very intense. I had a very difficult time reading about her kidnapping and torture. I wasn't sure how the author was ever going to get her healed enough mentally to have a happy ever after. She managed to do it in a fairly believable way though using the magical/psychic bound between Elle and Jackson. His strength and love was a bulwark and healing force for her. It was great to see all the sisters and their men together and everything wrapped up. Good series.
First off, this is the first book I have read by this author and wouldn't you know...I picked the last one of a series.
Elle and Jackson are an odd couple. She's got this awesome psychic power and he's a former POW who is trying to find how to heal his scarred and tortured soul. Elle found him while he was imprisoned and the connection was made. Turns out he is her legacy. The partner to the seventh daughter of the seventh daughter. Now Elle has run away to find her new destiny since Jackson doesn't want to take part in the legacy. Or so she thinks. Talk about miscommunication and stubbornness.

Jackson rescues Elle for a mad psychic who wields power none of the Drake sisters even had a hint existed. She's been put through her own show more torture and punishment. Will she ever be whole? Now Jackson's affection, is it true or just a knee jerk reaction to what she has suffered and how she helped him survive his torture.

Now the sister's getting together and trying to heal Elle with their individual powers was interesting. To read about them sitting around having tea and eating cookies all while using psychic powers to pour the tea and bake the cookies....that was fun! The men of the sister's are an usual pack of men too. Some seem to have a bit of the psychic power to them too. Wish I could have had a bit more of each of their personalities, maybe if I go back and read the other books in the series I'll get my wish.

Big issue for me is the villain. Stavros, how did he become so powerful? What of his brother the biker who likes to "break and train" the women they kidnap and sell? Did he just disappear from the face of the Earth? I didn't need an in-depth expose about Stavros but a little something as to why he's as warped as he is would have been appreciated. (Once again, maybe he was mentioned in another book and I missed it)And his eventual demise...rather simplistic considering he was this great psychic power house, don't you think he might have had an inkling something was going on and would have taken different action? Don't know just too convenient for my tastes.

All in all a good read. Interesting. Love the animals; both the land loving and the sea faring types. May go back and read the others in the series, just not as excited as I thought I would be to have a new series to get caught up in.

Still in love with Jackson, but having resigned herself to the fact that he doesn't want to be what she needs, Elle Drake has assumed the persona of a rich playgirl and gone deep undercover to investigate a wealthy Greek suspected of human trafficking. Almost set to clear him, Elle is suddenly aware that her target not only isn't what he seems, he's much worse than her wildest nightmares could possibly prepare her for. Now, caught, raped, tortured and abused, Elle has only the most tenuous psychic connection with Jackson to sustain her - and she'd dying.

The final installment in the Drake Sisters series is darker and more intense than previous books in the series. It definitely isn't for the faint-hearted or squeamish. But thick as it show more is, I read it through in just a couple of sittings, and thought it was one of Feehan's better recent efforts. show less
