Description

This is the second volume in the trilogy, The Ships of Slaves, which tells the story of the Danish/Norwegian participation in the transatlantic slave trade on the Gold Coast (now Ghana) to the West Indies. It details the journey the slaves underwent; the conditions in which they travelled, and resulting deaths along the way; and the show more auctions on St Thomas and St Croix in the West Indies. show less

First words

Still, people were out, bare to their waists, or in loose smocks and large straw hat... (show all)s, working in their gardens with hoes and minding their animals.
Last words
(Click to show. Warning: May contain spoilers.)Some say it is the laughter of the wise man who gave them the drums. Others too, believe that the wise man was the one and same ancestral king whose two sons came over here to found the villages. And oh, ask to be taken to Atimmeligu. The name means 'the place of Atimbilla and Meliga.' Few people use the separate old names nowadays.
