It's got poetry, art, science, a narrative essay, and suggestions for further reading. It's lovely. And perfect for homeschooling families. And poetry fans. And fans of hummingbirds, those miniature ferocities.
This collection of poems has poems that deal with a mother hummingbird crafting a nest, laying her eggs, and waiting for her babies to hatch. The author shows the journey of this mother and her babies growing up throughout these poems. I think this book would be good for third grade.
Nature is described in the form of poetry in "The Hummingbird's Nest." George writes from observing nature and creates lyrical and endearing works of art. I think some of these poems could be used to create a combination science and writing lesson.
