John Nicol, former RAF pilot famously shot down and held captive in the first Gulf War, has come up with an excellent thriller using his specialist knowledge. RAF fighters ("Tempest") are falling out of the sky because of a fly-by-wire problem, but the hero of the story has to prove it. ( )
