The Invisible String by Patrice Karst is about love and how it keeps people connected, even when they are not together. The book shows this through Liza and Jeremy, they are twins who are scared during a storm. Their mom explains the “invisible string,” which is a symbol for love that you can not see but can feel in your heart. The twins start to feel safe and they show how they grow from being scared to understanding that love never goes away. Karst uses the invisible string as a way to show love between people, and the twins' questions make the story feel relatable. For kids, this book teaches them about love, connection, and how to deal with fear. I liked this book because it reminded me that even if I am not next to someone, I show more can still be connected to them. show less
One night Liza and Jeremy were asleep until they were woken up by the loud and scary storm. They ran to their mother who told them not to worry and just go back to bed, but the two wanted to stay close to their mother. Then the mother told them that they're still together no matter what because the invisible string connects them together. The invisible string is a special string made of love that connects people that love each other together even across very far distances.
This book was so cute. I love the author's idea of the invisible string connecting people to the ones they love so they're never truly alone. I especially loved the part where the kids asked if the string could reach into heaven to their uncle. This is a great book to show more read to students in any scenario to just show them that they're never alone. show less

This book is age-appropriate for primary students and classrooms.
Liza and Jeremy are twins who are scared during a storm. To comfort them, their mother tells them about the Invisible String. People who love each other are always connected by an Invisible String made of love, even if they are far away or even in heaven, you are connected to those you love. They slept soundly after, knowing that they were never alone.
This is a cute and heartwarming story that would be comforting to anyone who reads it. It could be used as a tool to help kids deal with separation anxiety or even grief and loss. I would use this as a read-aloud on the first day of school for young kids who are nervous about leaving their parents all day.

Summary:
*Loud thunder sound*
Two children woke up in the middle of the night scared because of a thunderstorm. They ran and cried to their mom because they were scared and need her instantly. Their mom sits down with them and holds up an invisible string. The puzzled children question what their mom is holding since they can not see it. The mom tells her children, "People who love each other are always connected by a very special string made of love... you can't see it with your eyes, you can feel it with your heart." The children become curious and ask her many questions.
"How far can the string each?" asked the children.
"Anywhere and everywhere," Mom said.
They also learn the invisible string reaches up to heaven to their Uncle Brian.

My opinion/Notes:
This book is a great book for children who have separation anxiety. It teaches children that you are truly never alone in the world due to your invisible string. There is always someone who is thinking about you and who loves you due to the invisible string. The string never breaks even when you are mad and it reaches all over the place; from the bottom of the ocean to space and even to heaven.
Along with separation anxiety, this book touches the topic of children dealing with loss and death. It does a great job explaining the invisible string (can be a coping mechanism) even reaches all the way to heaven. Explaining, even though a person (you may miss) may not be right-here-right-now you are still connected with them.
As I read this book, this book reminded myself of the word, "spiritually". You are connected with the invisible string made of love; you are connected spiritually. show less

Twins Liza and Jeremy awaken during a storm and run to their mother for comfort. "As long as love is in your heart, the string will always be there. No one is ever alone."
Critical Analysis: This is a great teacher book for bibliotherapy to help children discuss and deal with separation anxiety, general anxiety, illness or death, and for ways to deal with loneliness.

The Invisible String
This was a new book to me, but I really enjoyed it. The Invisible String talks about how far love can travel with the “invisible string” that holds together people who love each other. This book discusses some hard topics like love, anger and even death a little bit, but in a very kid friendly way for kids to understand. Your invisible string can connect to so many people, and everyone can all be connected by invisible strings if we all share love in the world.

A sweet, touching, comforting story about the unbreakable bonds of love that connects us, even when we are apart. I think it's a great read for children who are coping with separation, loss or anxiety. It's simple yet powerful and would make a great story for the classroom setting, or at home with the family.
