This book primarily chronicles European immigration to the United States through Ellis Island. Chock full of images - photos and illustrations -- the accompanying text blurbs retell the great American tale of how so many white-complexioned immigrants made it to the American shores in search of greater opportunity and a better life. It does not say much about persons of color until late in the text, and hardly references Asian immigration in the 19th century. Nice for the coffee table, it best serves the crowd which maintains the propaganda that America was built by hardworking Europeans lured by the Great American Dream.
Good for history lessons, as well as heritage projects. Could be part of a text set or stand alone recommendation.
