Considering this is PNR, the romance was really sex labelled as love. I didn't like the assumption that all werewolves everywhere were bad and I'm pretty sure the hero was a shifter of some kind though he was apparently human despite his inhuman attributes. The villains were obvious but kind of pathetic at the same time but then the plot felt strange and the denouement wasn't very satisfying.

Although I did like the hero's ethnicity (Native American) and his trouble finding someone to like him for him rather than his pretty face and good sexual technique. His insecurity was endearing as was the heroine's reason for being ashamed to be seen with him in public. Not a good book but easy enough to read.
Jessie McQuade is a cop in small town Miniwa, Wisconsin and she has some issues. Jessie is one of those people who have no life, because her job is her life. But Jessie’s cozy little routine of work, eat, sleep, repeat; is about to change. One night during her shift Jessie gets called out to check on a woman who hit a wolf. The wolf had bit the woman after she got out to check to see if it was okay and then it had ran off into the woods (the wolf not the woman.) So now Jessie has to go into the woods to try and track down the wolf to see if it has rabies. But instead of a wolf Jessie finds a naked man roaming around.

Soon after that, Jessie is assigned to help some old German guy track down the crazy wolves. According to him, the show more wolves are infected with a new kind of super rabies that makes them smarter and when it bites someone that person goes crazy. This is a serious problem seeing as the wolves are going out of their way to bite people. Oh, and the “rabies” may be somehow connected with the Nazi’s. So now Jessie has to go stomping around in the woods with a cranky old old man hunting wolves, before they infect more people. But there’s even more to the story than everyone’s telling her and she’s determined to find out everything before she ends up dead.

Nazi created werewolves have invaded small town Miniwa, WI. Sounds corny, huh? Well it isn’t, because somehow Handeland manages to pull it off. I loved this book.

Jessie isn’t the kind of heroine that all fuzzy creatures adore and love, instead she’s the kind that goes into the woods and shoots them for dinner. She’s one of those deeply independent heroines. She’s one of those rare heroines who knows exactly what she’s doing and also knows her limits. Sure she’s a little rough around the edges, but that’s what I liked most about her. And that’s also why Will works so well for her.

Will has some issues too, after all he’s constantly walking around nude, I swear I can count on one hand how many times that man had clothes on in this book. But I was really disappointed that we didn’t get a deeper look into Will’s past, but that’s kind of hard to do when Will is supposed to be Jessie’s prime suspect. And you know the writing is good when it’s a romance and you know who the hero is, but you still have your doubts as to what side he’s on.

But what really impressed me about this book was that I liked the bad guys. Handeland didn’t make them insanely evil, in fact she gave them a lot of traits that I liked and at the end I even felt a little bad for them.

Jessie McQuade has seen her fair share of things in her years on the Miniwa, Wisconsin police force - but nothing so strange as the wolf attacks plaguing the small town recently. When a wolf hunter shows up and she is assigned to help him, she starts wondering who to trust, and if she can trust the hunky professor Will Cadotte who has been giving her information about local Indian beliefs about the strange werewolf-like creatures that seem to be gathering around Miniwa.

Blue Moon is an interesting read. I never figured out who was good and who was bad until told and yet I know that if I went back and re-read it I would see all the clues, which is something I appreciate in a novel. Just for that I would give it at least 4 stars. But I'm show more forced to bring my rating down a notch when I consider the multiple times I saw words misused in the novel. Words where, if the author didn't know the correct word to use, the editor surely should have. For example, at one point a character should have said "descendant" but instead says "ancestor." Big difference there. It happens several times throughout the novel.

I'm interested to see more of the series, but I won't expect it to be anything more than preternatural fluff with good sex.

A very interesting romantic suspense novel centered on werewolves set in Wisconsin. Not exceptional world building, but the characters are interesting personalities. Heroine is a HUGE sarcastic, snarky, smart-ass. I loved her.
Not your typical werewolf novel. A few twists on the traditional storyline, well drawn characters, and a nicely paced mystery all make for a few hours of fun reading. I'll definitely read more of
Handeland.
Fast-paced and intriguing. I really liked Jessie, the main character - she's tough, funny and sarcastic and smart enough to admit when she doesn't know what she's doing. And of course, I adore the supernatural, and the focus on a secret government special forces focused on supernatural beings? Well, sign me up!

I just finished reading this book and I must say I really enjoyed it. The story was fast paced, the werewolf lore was interesting. I liked the main character, Jessie, and her relationship with Will. All of the characters were well written and seemed like real people. As some other readers have mentioned, some of the sex scenes seemed gratuitous, but the rest of the story was great. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
