Description

It's been years since Abby O'Brien Winters set foot in Chesapeake Shores. The Maryland town her father built has too many sad memories and Abby too few spare moments, thanks to her demanding Wall Street career, the crumbling of her marriage and energetic twin daughters. Then one panicked phone call from her youngest sister brings her racing back home to protect Jess's dream of renovating the charming Inn at Eagle Point.

But saving the inn from foreclosure means dealing not only with her own show more fractured family, but also with Trace Riley, the man Abby left ten years ago. Trace can be a roadblock to her plans...or proof that second chances happen in the most unexpected ways.

I couldn't finish this. I made it far enough into this to have been introduced to 5 members of the O'Brien family, plus this book's hero and they were all annoying as crap. Jess was the worst, but Abby, our "heroine" was almost as bad. Disliking her made me predisposed to side w/Trace, but he made that impossible when he emotionally blackmailed Abby into staying in Chesapeake Shores because he's still mad at her for dumping him & still has the hots for her. When I got to the part where Abby explained that she hadn't vacinated her twin daughters because she thought the MMR might give them autism I was done.

I started reading this after I got caught up in watching the Hallmark series. It was a nice casual read but I felt like parts dragged and the ending was abrupt. Although the family dynamics and their struggles can be strong emotional struggles, they are explained flat out leaving the reader not having to dig deep to figure it out. Personally, I liked this as I didn't want a heavy read at the time. I love the characters, they were relatable and realistic, I live a few Jess's. I will probably continue the series out of curiosity at the least. Easy Beach Read!
Summer fluff is the best kind of literary fluff there is. This fit the bill nicely.

But. The main character ponders on how her twin girls have the best in designer clothes and shoes, but she can't get her kids an MMR vaccination and they come down with the measles?

Sore point with me.
Yes, I want to watch the Chesapeake Shores through Netflix, but I want to read the 3-4 first books of the series because I believe that the series will mix plots from different books (as they did to the other Sherryl Wood's book series that turned to a series as well.)
An interesting storyline that I liked that Sherryl included in the book was the relationship between Abby and her sister Jess. Most romance authors concentrate on just the main two characters and sometimes include outside characters into it at times. But in Inn at Eagle Point, Sherryl did a great job, including how Jess and Abby's relationship and how their mother leaving affected their life.
Sherryl Woods knows how to write family, friends, and couple relationships.
Abby's show more twins made me laugh many times throughout the book. Looking forward to continuing with the series and leave more in the lives of the O'Brien's. show less
As the 1st book in the series there were a lot of characters introduced. Easy predictable formulaic series type. Abby and Trace were almost too predictable for their love story. I did like how Abby realized her ex husband was such a controlling person degrading her at every chance. Loved the personality of the grandma and her humorous way of getting her point across. Jess was over the top with her ADD issues but it added suspense to how she was going to get the inn ready on time. Their parents being apart all those years show that there will be more happening with them.
This is the first book in the Chesapeake Shores series. This series revolves around the O'Brien family. The first book introduces us to the family through the life of their first born, Abby O'Brien Winters. Abby comes back to Chesapeake Shores to help her younger sister, Jess who has gotten in over her head renovating the old inn at Eagle Point. Chesapeake Shores is a town in Maryland built by the family patriarch, Mick O'Brien. Abby has made a name for herself in the financial world of Wall Street.

Trace Riley, Abby's old flame, agreed to a six month trial work period at his father's bank. Trace has established himself as a graphic designer and has no interest in taking over the bank. He is using this time to convince his father that show more the perfect person for this job is his sister, Laila.

Trace's first assignment at the bank is to deal with the foreclosure of Jess's Inn at Eagle Point. Trace agreed to give Jess time to make good on her loan and not foreclose on the condition that Abby stay in Chesapeake Shores to oversee the financial portion of this venture. Needless to say, neither sister is very happy with this situation. They do make the best of it however.

Trace uses the time to reconnect with Abby and they both learn that they still have feelings for each other. Trace never stopped loving Abby and Abby needed to be reminded of her love for Trace and not to be scared of taking a risk to love.

Complicating matters is Abby's ex-husband, Wes Winters. He is making life difficult for Abby by trying to get full custody of their twin 5-year-old daughters, Carrie and Caitlyn. Wes pulls some dirty tricks in order to get his way, however he is thwarted in his efforts. He does this because he is worried that he won't ever see his daughters again.

A great deal of how the O'Brien children navigate through their lives is through a filter of their parents divorce. When Abby was seventeen and Jess was seven, their mother walked out on their family (as they see it). Their mother, Megan still loved Mick, however she could not deal with his workaholic ways. The children have coped with it in their own ways and it has taken a toll on how they relate in the world. Most of the O'Brien children have not forgiven their mother, Jess especially.

Sherryl Woods does a wonderful job in telling the story of the O'Briens and in making a reader want to learn more about this family. This is a wonderful heartwarming story about family, love, and endurance.

I would certainly recommend this book to other readers. And I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series and learning more about the O'Brien family. I am very pleased with my choice.

A pleasant story and I especially liked the steadfast hero but the pace of the story was kind of slow and so heavy with family dynamics that they seemed to overshadow the romance. Abby returns to her hometown to help her sister with finances and the banker she has to deal with is her childhood love Trace.
