Just after viewing the late president’s funeral, I began and quickly finished this slim volume. Carter focuses on the expression of his faith, how it drove him in particularly difficult time and in moments when he faced particularly difficult decisions. His view on faith and spirituality is much more expansive than the fundamental voices of today, voices he specifically takes to task. And it’s more focused on how faith and spirituality should fit into today’s world, how it should influence our choices and our interactions and our drive for justice in the social and cultural aspects of life, not just the religious.
As an eight-year-old boy, I scrawled a congratulatory note to the peanut farmer and maverick upon his election. He’s show more been a favorite ever since. And a more astute rendering of his presidency places him where he belongs in the line of those who’ve resided in the White House.

I have a lot of respect for President Jimmy Carter, more for his continuing efforts towards world peace and his work with Habitat for Humanity than for anything else. I knew that he was a Christian, but I didn't really know much about his beliefs or his life. So I was pleased to find this audiobook in the library book sale.
While we don't share all the same beliefs, I really found so much to admire about Carter in this book. He hasn't always had an easy path in life. He talks about his decision to leave the Navy and his struggles in his early marriage. He also talks about his public life. It was fun to get an insider's look at what was going on.
My favorite line from the book is something another Christian said to him once. "In this life, show more you only have to love two people. One is God, and the other is the person in front of you."
I really enjoyed this. It was only one tape, so it was a very brief story, but I would recommend it. show less

A book of personal faith drawn from the Bible and personal experiences would not normally be my cup of tea, but this is by Jimmy Carter, the living ex-president I most admire (actually, the ONLY living ex-pres I admire), and it was a chance to meet him and get his book signed. So what the heck. And actually it was a pretty good book. It's personal, with interesting stories and musings, and occasionally a good lesson. It didn't suck. I bet you couldn't say the same thing about any book Tricky Dick ever wrote.
