This was my second novel by Sagan after ‘Bonjour Tristesse’. A young wife, Josée, trapped in a hopeless marriage meets a rich and powerful older man, Julius A. Cran, who helps her leave her husband, find an apartment to live and a job at an Arts magazine. Very soon he and a powerful woman friend of his circle take care of everything for her. The book focuses on Josée’s naiveté and Julius real interests. It is a light read with interesting reflections on how trapped Josée feels as a woman and the choices she makes to live her life.
