Effie's tales of life in her retirement community feel a bit like they are running out of steam in this third of her series. Many of the anecdotes have been widely repeated elsewhere, and it matters not to the reader whether she is the borrower or borrowee.

Once again, there is no problem that can't be solved by a night of reminiscences by her co-retirees or a quick conversation with someone who knows someone who has the solution to her latest human project's need. It's all very reassuring and calm, and just the thing for a case of rattled nerves or gloomy outlook that needs to enter a world -- even a pastel-colored fantasy one -- where everything is bound to turn out right. Just don't look for intricate plotting or deep insights here.

Hattie McNair and her senior citizen cohorts at FairAcres Home are solving a mystery and entering a contest. Hattie is still meddling, eavesdropping and recording everything in her journal. Lucky for us.
Book 3 in the Fair Acres Series that shares what it means to live life to the fullest, no matter what your age.
