Description
Baumschlager & Eberle are widely-acknowledged as the "shooting stars" of that particular group of architects emanating from the state of Vorarlberg and calling itself the "Vorarlberger Bauk nstler". Although they have gained recognition in a wide variety of fields since the mid-eighties, their particular interest has always been in homing, a field of architecture in which their office has come to specialize. Homing in all facets; from reasonably priced, part do it yourself single-family home show more to the distinctive apartment building and the homing estate on the urban periphery. In this volume Baumschlager & Eberle propound their theories on housing based on the know-how they have gained over the years. They deal with the question of typology, the optimization problems with regard to area, cost, ecology and energy, social issues (social strata), the question of location as well as ground-plans, the relationship between outdoor and indoor living space and quality of cladding. Housing, however, is seen here from a pragmatic as well as a theoretical point of view. A wide variety of buildings and projects by the architects are presented, offering various solutions to the questions raised. show lessTags
