Description

"In this thriller, Nicholas Van Orton, a shrewd and successful businessman who is always in control, has been enrolled by his brother in "The Game"--"a profound life experience" with no rules, which begins quietly but soon erupts in a confusing maze of devastating events. Terrorized by forces who seem intent on dismantling all that he has built, Van Orton has to win this deadly game or lose control of everything in his life."

A rich asshole joins a mysterious game.

It seems fun from the standpoint of putting together the puzzle pieces of the plot. But the suspense is of the variety that focuses on making the audience uncomfortable; if the protagonist were at all sympathetic, I'd probably hate the movie. And the ending fails miserably in the reasonable-human-behavior department. [spoilers:] They spend the entire movie breaking this man, then in about three seconds he snaps back as if nothing was ever wrong (but he learned a valuable lesson about being a different sort of asshole than he used to be, so good for him). What do you get for the man who has everything? PTSD.

It is entertaining and especially original. David Fincher made it really credible. Okay, sometimes there are some open questions but the story never gets boring and Michael Douglas delivers after his psycho-movie FALLING DOWN another excellent performance. It is a psycho thriller where Douglas is a business man involved in a very dangerous game with a surprisingl end, like a hot trip through adventure and nightmare.
