I thought this was an excellent introduction to the runes, she connects them with Eddaic mythology and cosmology. She also discusses seidhr (which is like Norse shamanism) and a female slant to Asatru.
But I have been told by heathens this book has some innacuracies. Still, I think it has its good points, just keep in mind it's mostly her personal interpretations, and modern not ancient practices.

Great wonderful book that is very clear and takes a feminine look at not only the runes but the Norse Gods & Goddesses as well. In many books the Goddesses take a back seat, but Freya does a wonderful job at bringng them to the forefront and giving them the respect and attention they deserve. A companion is also available: "Songs of Yggdrasil:Shamanic Chants". Highly recommended!!!
After my 1992 version fell apart(over reading) I bought this new one with a great CD in it. Same book but with a some extras... still good if not better
