Description

What should Carly Beth be for Halloween this year? Terrified! Late at night, and ugly green mask is mysteriously calling out to her. If Carly Beth survives the night, even a scary theme park might sound like a vacation. Or maybe not! At Horrorland, every night is Halloween. And those monster masks? They aren't masks at all.

This was a sequel, and although I have never read The Haunted Mask, I was able to follow The Scream of the Haunted Mask just fine. It was rather creepy (but not quite Fear Street-level), and the soundtrack and sound effects in the audio book added immensely to that vibe. The second part - the Horrorland story - was a little harder to follow as I have not read the second and third books in the Horrorland series and the stories are continuous.
Huh. I thought I had this figured out within the first few chapters, but for the first time in a while, Stine's twist ending actually took an unexpected turn. Pleasantly enough, this Goosebumps was annoying-character free (Stine writes intentionally annoying characters far too well).

After a terrifying Halloween involving a mask that wouldn’t come off, Carly-Beth is sure she’s done with haunted masks forever. But when she ends up in a mysterious mansion filled with creepy masks—and finally arrives at the HorrorLand theme park—she realizes the nightmare is just beginning. R. L. Stine crafts a chilling sequel to The Haunted Mask, blending haunted attractions, supernatural suspense, and classic Goosebumps twists in a fast-paced middle-grade horror adventure.
A fast, fun, and spooky thriller for kids about a twelve-year-old girl (Carly Beth) who hid away an ugly green mask in her basement. A while ago she bought it, put it on, and she couldn’t take it off. It made her do evil things. Now, with Halloween on the way, the mask seems to be calling to her…

There is also a short, continuing, secondary story included in this book titled “Enter Horrorland” which was enjoyable and takes place in an amusement park.
I am not a huge fan of Goosebumps books, but many reluctant readers love the series. I was surprised at how creepy the story could get, and I can see why many students enjoy reading these books. This book could be used for literature circles with a scary horror theme. I can also be used for learning and using literary devices, such as personification with the haunted mask.
I have always been a Goosebumps fan, but I only recently discovered the Horrorland series. Each book has a (very) creepy story involving children, followed by a chapter of the Horrorland tale. Each book brings further clarity to the Horrorland section, leaving the reader craving more. Unfortunately, I only have the first eight, so I am in limbo as to what will happen. I cannot wait to obtain the remainder of this thrilling series!
Carly Beth passar o Halloween apavorada.
