An interesting idea that probably works well in his context. Not sure how well it would work in other contexts. It's the sort of thing that you have to go "all in" with, you can't really pick and choose the stuff you like. ( )

Catmagic is a captivating book that brings the wonder and excitement of magic to life. The characters in the books are interesting from Lottie, to Sofie, to Ariadne, the personalities bring out the feelings of childhood struggles and the fantasy overlay that keeps you reading. Lottie gets the chance to know just what the animals around her want to say—the dream of every child and pet owner. ( )

I love reading children's book, they are just the right length for an adult who wants a very quick but delightful read. As an avid adult read this took me about an hour to read and I'm genuinely considering reading some more from the collection. The plot is lovely but I'm unsure how the series will continue - whether Holly Webb continues using the pet shop as a base or just focusing on the main character of Lottie.

Lottie has to go spend the summer holidays with her Uncle Jack in Netherbridge because her mother has to go to Paris with work. Uncle Jack owns a pet shop called 'Grace's Pet Shop' and is her dad's older brother but Lottie's mother doesn't like seeing that side of the family any more as it makes her sad. Her cousin Danny lives there who is just one year older, I can't remember exactly but I think Lottie is 10 and Danny 11.

Lottie doesn't want to spend her holidays there (primarily because she doesn't want to parted from her mother) but (from the back of the book) "when she discovers his pet shop is full of magical animals, everything changes". A lot changes with Lottie as well. She learns about her self and what challenges her mother has faced, as well as finding out all about her father's side of the family.

This is a great book for young readers (or those who simply enjoy a magical story), the print is a good size and perfect for any young adult. The length will give it a bit of a challenge for some or a welcome break from those already reading longer books. The illustration of the cat on the front is lovely but it does take a while before we actually meet her - that's my only criticism of this book. ( )

A lonely girl finds a place where she fits in: a place with talking animals. A gentle charming story for little girls with a sense of wonder or for any adults who never lost theirs. ( )
