Description

Vicki feels very misunderstood. She's fifteen, she's angry and she's always been in trouble with her parents. It gets so bad that she decides to run away from home. Vicki travels to London, where she finds that life on the streets is far from easy. It's only when Vicki travels out to the countryside to pick strawberries, to earn some money, that she meets Red and things begin to take a positive turn.

An easy reader about a girl called Vicky who keeps getting in trouble with her parents ( unlike her star older brother and cute baby sister). After being caught after sneaking out one night when she is grounded, her father tells her to either follow his rules or move out. Vicky takes the second option and runs away. She then spends months on the streets relying on soup kitchens, the Salvos and other charity - avoiding the advances of other street people and never staying in one place longer than she has to. Then she gets a "job" at a Strawberry Farm picking strawberries and meets the grumpy Red who hangs around suspiciously. What is his game?

A tiny bit dated ( written in 2002) as the use of payphones is still mentioned, but apart from show more that a suspenseful story without complex language and short in length. ( 120p plus large illustrations) Would be ok for older ESL students. show less
