Description

This novel (by Christopher Golden writing under a pseudonym) was hard to get into and once I did it took me awhile to read it. On the other hand, even though I picked it up and put it down a couple of times, it was easy to do and I never lost the story's thread.
The story was a Sci Fi/Thriller/Adventure, though it was more reality based Science Fiction than most Sci Fi. The novel starts with illegal gun runners and the shipping company picking up the guns, but soon the FBI, Navy, DoD and some seriously frightening monsters join the party.
Most of the characters were interesting, though a few of them were quite boring and some weren't pleasant. But, even the characters that I didn't love were very well written and all had distinct voices show more (well, maybe not some of the Navy Sailors, but that's not surprising).
My favorite part of the book was the undercurrent of 'who is the undercover FBI agent'. Then, after we find out who it is, there was this sort of secondary feeling of, 'could there be another agent' from another branch of the government?
It's a solid thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat, just not as great as some of Golden's other novels. show less

Actually the author of this is Christopher Golden, writing under Jack Rogan.
That was the main reason for me to buy this book, sounded like a [a:Clive Cussler|18411|Clive Cussler|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1225620641p2/18411.jpg]-novel.
Could have been shorter, nearly all major characters (5-8?) get a flashback-background story, and I could have done with less.
Good use of romance conflicting with job or task at hand, short sex-scenes add to the story, and are ok.
At one point I think there is a procedural mistake, where someone sprains his/her ankle and a few short pages later hears it break but nothing is mentioned after that - the person should have been unable to do most of the running around in the book after that.
Parts of the show more story could also have been by the [a:Douglas Preston|12577|Douglas Preston|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1399043352p2/12577.jpg] - [a:Lincoln Child|11091|Lincoln Child|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1241119274p2/11091.jpg]-Duo of writers.
