Description

Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:Since opening up their day spa, The Haven, the wonderful women of the Hot Flash Club have been busy indulging the beleaguered, nerve-frazzled throngs. Now, in Nancy Thayer’s hilarious new Hot Flash novel, it’s the friends’ turn to grab some soothing, and much-deserved R&R.

When a long-time Haven client asks the gals to housesit her Nantucket hideaway for the summer, they’re beyond thrilled; the cozy island enclave is the perfect place to shop, show more swim, chill, and plan Marilyn’s upcoming wedding to Ian, her Scottish fiancé. And Marilyn desperately needs the break, since Ian’s grown son has crashed at the couple’s place with no departure date in sight.

Soon after they arrive, the other hot flashers surrender to their own summer flings: Shirley entertains a steamy dalliance with a scruffy, sexy local fisherman that could lead to something deeper; Faye finds her dream house, but restoring it could be a costly nightmare; craft-maven Polly is enthralled by the island’s bounty, from shell art to lightship baskets; and even hardboiled Alice swoons with romantic adventure–or is it seasickness?

But this lovefest among the sand and ocean breezes is not without its consequences. Each woman must determine for herself what she is willing to give up in order to hold onto what she has found–and all of them fear that Shirley is on the brink of making a huge mistake, one that threatens their harmony and their business. But these concerns may be eclipsed by the mystery surrounding the disappearance of family heirlooms at the house where they are staying, and rumors that the place harbors spirits other than Grey Goose and Tanqueray.

Nancy Thayer continues her hugely successful Hot Flash series with this wickedly funny, delightfully bawdy tale. These irresistible women spring to life–along with their passions, their sorrows, their joys, and, most importantly, their friendship. So pack your bags and join these fabulous five for a season of fun, sun, love, sex, and estrogen therapy.

This is my 2nd book by Nancy Thayer. My first in the Hot Flash series.
This story revolves around Marilyn,Shirley,Faye,Alice and Polly. All members of the Hot Flash Club. The friends who run a business together, stay at a friend's summer home in Nantucket. Each woman has a different relationship with a man in or out of their lives. They are their own support group, having fun, discussing life, old memories and new adventures for their future and solutions to life's dilemmas. There is even a small mystery in the story.
This is a light, fun, enjoyable summer read! Many women can identify with the female humor in this book.Lots of chuckles, smiles and friendly moments. Very good read.

I discovered Nancy Thayer's Hot Flash Club series and have read everyone. The novel take place outside of Boston about a group of women over the age of 50. It is comforting knowing that there are women your age feeling and doing the same things you are.

I miss the characters when the book is over.
Delightful! Makes me want to go live on Nantucket. Reminds me of the summers on the Cape....
More of the imperfections of the hot flash ladies that made me not want to put this book down. Another excellent job by Ms. Thayer!
Opening Sentence: '…Faye released the tiebacks on her bedroom curtains…’

This book is the fourth in the and the menopausal heroines are on the edge. Marilyn wants to plan her wedding to Ian, but is too busy keeping together a hectic household. She has an aging mother in the basement, Ian's nerdy son in the attic and a glamorous widow from Scotland in the spare bedroom.

Faye's relationship with Aubrey starts to falter as he turns slowly into a fussy querulous old man before her very eyes.

Meanwhile, Polly wants a commitment from Hugh. She just wants to be first in his life, but he's busy rushing off to his ex-wife's whenever she calls.

Alice is recovering from her heart attack and needs to relax, but she helps care for her baby show more granddaughter, whose parents can't stop fighting.

Finally there is the unlucky in love romantic, Shirley. She has finally found a guy her friends approve of, but he's terminally boring.

Yep, the ladies are stressed. Enter a business associate of Shirley's, who asks if the ladies would like to stay at her home on Nantucket for the summer. The catch is that some antiques have disappeared, so the ladies will have to keep an eye out. Oh, and the house may be haunted.

This book was an ok read, I don't think it was as good as the first one in the series.

Another in a series that focuses on a group of women in Boston who support one another in finding their dreams and coping with the crises of middle age (and a bit older). I enjoy the characters and their stories more and more, and they seem increasingly realistic to me as I reach that age.

It's been a while since I read this book, but I enjoyed ALL The Hot Flash Club books, because of the humour. I would like to find more books like these and Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" that not only have mystery but also Humour.
"You will fall in love with the characters!" Funny! reat series - good author
