Description
The Bobbsey Twins are the principal characters of what was, for many years, the longest-running series of children's novles. The books related the adventures of the children of the middle-class Bobbsey family, which included two sets of fraternal twins: Bert and Nan, who where 12 years old, and Flossie and Freddie, who where six.Tags

The first three Bobbsey twins books were favorite reads of mine as a child, including this one, in which the children spend a month during the summer at their cousin's home on a farm.
While not preachy or overly "sweet", the stereotypes from a century ago are evident, obvious, but thankfully, not really offensive. Consider the time it was written, and enjoy it for nostalgia's sake.

A summer visit to their Aunt Sarah and Uncle Daniel on the family farm in Meadow Brook brings plenty of fun and frolic with the Bobbseys' cousin Harry and their many new friends - picnics and fireworks, parades and wild horse rides. But there is also plenty of work to be done, as the children help a sick neighbor bring in his crop of peas; organize a circus to raise money for the children at the nearby fresh-air camp; and rise to the occasion in the face of a potentially devastating flood. And by the end of their visit they have uncovered the culprit responsible for mysterious midnight serenades on the piano in the parlor.
The second book in The Bobbsey Twins series finds the two sets of twins experiencing life in the country during the first part of their summer vacation from school. Their stay with their aunt, uncle and cousins on their farm in Meadow Brook is filled with new adventures for the 'city' Bobbseys.
Why is it the boys seemed to have all the fun?
The twins put on a circus show, attend a parade, plant gardens, start a barnfire, go to a camp and make friends, and much more.
Another Christmas gift and a wonderful story.
22.The Bobbsey Twins in the Country by Laura Lee Hope (read in 1939) This and its predecessor book The Bobbsey Twins were not books I especially wanted to read but reading material was scarce so I read it.

Laura Lee Hope is the pseudonym for Stratemeyer Syndicate ghost writers who happened to be assigned to write the Bobbsey Twins series at any given time. In 1904, Edward Stratemeyer wrote the first installment in the Bobbsey Twin series: The Bobbsey Twins, or Merry Days Indoor and Out. Mershon published it in 1904. A debate rages as to the show more authorship of books 2 and 3. They are traditionally attributed to Edward Stratemeyer, but other Bobbsey experts assert that Lilian C. Garis, wife of Stratemeyer writer, Howard R. Garis, wrote them. Lilian's husband, Howard R. Garis, wrote the Bobbsey Twins series from 1913 to 1935. He is responsible for books 4-28 and book 41. The series was completed by Harriet S. Adams (books 36-40, 42-48), Andrew E. Svenson (books 49-52), June M. Dunn (books 53-59), Grace Grote (books 60-67) and Nancy S. Axelrad (books 68-72).
