Juliao Sarmento: Echo
by Julião Sarmento
On This Page
Description
Ever since his participation in the 1982 Documenta, the artistic position of Juli o Sarmento has been discussed in the context of Neo-Expressionism and Trans-avantguardia. A closer look at his work, however, reveals a different development of themes and narrative elements from his filmic and photographic work of the 1970s. While the parallel use of divergent techniques and media is not an end in itself, it can serve to visualize the insoluble poles of the sensuous and the conceptual as they show more appear in an individual work. Echo, published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven, provides a survey of the most important aspects of Sarmento's work over the last 30 years, including works of photography, film, painting and sculpture. show lessTags
