Swami Sivananda was an advaita vedantin (non-dualist). However it was not 'dry lip vedanta' that he practised and preached, but a dynamic practice of vedanta in daily life. In this book vedanta is explained in simple language with many homely illustrations and stories from the Upanishads, etc., so that the reader gets a clear understanding of the subject. Intricate points of vedanta are also thoroughly covered: but Swami Sivananda does not allow the reader to settle for intellectual knowledge alone. In his inimitable way he seasons what could have been a dry and technical book with the enthusiasm and soul-force of one who has mastered the subject and experienced its fruits.
