Artist Bruce Becker relates his encounters with the Amish community in Nickel Mines, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in the aftermath of the shooting of young girls in a schoolhouse on October 2, 2006. Prints of Becker's painting of an old Amish schoolhouse bell were used to raise funds to help the community rebuild after the tragedy and were given as gifts to the many emergency responders and others who had assisted the community during this terrible time. In the spirit of forgiveness shown by the Amish, a print was also given to the family of the gunman.… (more)
