Description
What Secrets Can Be Found by the Light of the Cajun Moon? New Orleans may be the "Big Easy," but nothing about it was ever easy for international business etiquette expert Chloe Ledet. She moved away years ago, leaving her parents and their famous French Quarter restaurant behind. But when she hears that her father has been shot, she races home to be by his side and to handle his affairs—only to learn a long-hidden secret that changes everything she knew to be true about herself and her show more family. Framed for murder, Chloe and a handsome Cajun stranger must search for a priceless treasure, one whose roots weave through the very history of Louisiana itself. But can Chloe depend on the mysterious man leading her on this cat-and-mouse chase into the heart of Cajun country? Or by trusting him, has she gone from the frying pan into the fire? Following up on her bestselling Gothic thriller, Whispers of the Bayou, and Amish romantic suspense, Shadows of Lancaster County, Mindy Starns Clark offers another exciting standalone novel, one full of Cajun mystery, hidden dangers, and the glow of God's unending grace.. show less

There are two storylines, one past and one present, the transitions between them are handled skillfully. The pacing of the murder mystery is quite good. The main character is Chloe Ledet, daughter of a famous New Orleans chef, who wakes in a hotel room with a dead guy and no idea what happened. She searches for truth with the help of a friend. The characters are well constructed and the suspense kept my attention.
I was enjoying this, until the final climax. I was ok with the characters displaying religious beliefs, but feel that it is a cop out for an author to use PRAYER as the solution to a crisis. Until the end it seemed like a decent episode of any mystery/cop show.

I checked this book out of the library about a week ago. I checked out of this book about 50 pages after that. What was it that did me in? Hard to say. It was either Chloe's bizarre vacillation between "this guy is a dateable prospect" and "men are scum" or the painfully detailed descriptions of Chef Julien's salt-encrusted fish.
This was OK but... it was incredibly ironic listening to this audio book's narrator reading conversations between the main characters about respecting the Cajun culture when she didn't bother to learn the correct pronunciation of any of the characters's names or the towns or even New Orleans.
Unusual story which bounces back and forth from 1700's to modern time. Involves a complicated murder case and mysterious buried treasure of golden statuettes. A bit overly complicated for my tastes; but well written with odd ball twists and turns. An interesting look at cajun culture.
This is yet another very entertaining mystery by Mindy Starns Clark. It takes place is New Orleans. I love how in her last couple of books Mindy ties a current day mystery into a story from the past. It's a lot of fun to follow the two stories along to see how they tie together in the end.
Deliciously mysterious and romantic. Another superb from Mindy Starns Clark. Read it. I highly recommend it.
As soon as the author introduced the perpetrator of the crime, I realized he was going to be the guilty party. :(
