This is, in my opinion, one of the funniest volumes of Girl Genius. I love Castle Heterodyne... I love Castle Heterodyne's skewed logic and twisted memory... "I can kill people in the sky! - Yay! Do that! Kill everyone in the sky!" This also has Gil's amazing new hat, declaring him to be a Schmott Guy! And then there's the epic stage battle between Gil and Zeetha, with a spork gun and the walking cage! And Mamma Gkika!!! If you haven't read Girl Genius before, none of that will make any sense, but that just means you should hustle over to http://www.girlgeniusonline.com and start reading. Go! Now!
This is the eighth TP in the wonderful Girl Genius gaslight fantasy graphic novel series. These books are just so much fun! This was one of the best books in this series so far.
Agatha has finally made it into Heterodyne Castle, now she needs to repair the castle. Except the castle is constantly trying to kill her, as is the pretend Agatha who entered the castle before her. Luckily it ends up Agatha knows a lot of people who have been imprisoned in the castle and some of her friends have decided to join her as well.
I continue to really love this steampunk graphic novel series. It’s full of wonderful adventure, steampunk devices, and some magic. I love the brightly colored illustration and all the action.
There are hilarious scenes with show more Gilgamesh and his gigantic laser that had me laughing out loud, not to mention what is up with that crazy hat? Really he has some hilarious scenes in this book. Agatha really comes into power as she goes on a mission to convince Castle Heterodyne that yes, she is the last Heterodyne.
Then there is the amazing Castle Heterodyne itself, it’s just so cool! I love the personality it has and how it is fractured throughout the castle. I also really enjoyed some of the spectacular defenses the castle launched, the torchmen are really really nifty.
Overall I am still really loving this series. This is one of the best books in the series yet. These are so funny, which so many neat steampunk elements, a complex story, wonderfully quirky characters, action, magic, and romance. Really it’s just a wonderfully fun read that I highly recommend to graphic novel fans! show less

Agatha Heterodyne is struggling with the legacy of her family castle, which has a mind of its own (or several minds, as it turns out); meanwhile Gilgamesh Wulfenbach is trying to break into the castle and rescue her, against the wishes of his father the baron. The Foglio art style is distinctive (and a bit of googling revealed why I thought it looked familiar); the plotting and scrioting decent enough. It's a fun romp, but difficult to appreciate without having read the first seven volumes. Unlike the other Hugo nominees this hasn't yet been published in a single edition, so you have to read it off the website; no doubt the eventual dead trees version will have some explanatory front matter.
One of my favorites in the Heterodyne-verse. Castle Heterodyne is a fascinating, sentient mansion with a lot of personality and possibly a bit of psychosis! Fun to see characters interact with a powerful piece of real estate, and the art is dark but beautifully drawn.
Excellent comic. Girl Genius is a great steam punk series mixed in with a little fantasy. We just get a taste of a wide range of different aspects of this world. This is a beautiful book and the artwork is great.
(spoilerish)
Agatha has met the voice of the castle in the last episode and has just been sent into the castle via the main gate as a 'prisoner'. Things are fairly lively both inside and outside the castle and this book is jammed packed full of adventure and mad-science!

Gorgeous artwork and hypnotic storytelling. I'm particularly in love with the final panel and my custom sketch of Von Pinn.
