Mostly didactic, but also classic George story about planting trees and recycling. ( )

Synopsis: This book tells the story of Curious George learning to recycle. He finds and recycles things around town that aren’t quite ready for the recycle bin, upsetting many neighbors. In the end the whole community can’t wait to lend a hand—and help George and the museum plant some trees! The end of the book features a list of suggested ideas for minimizing paper waste and helping the environment. Ages 4-7.

Response: Like all Curious George books, this tale is simple and saccharine. George gets himself into a gentle, adorable scrape and emerges unscathed with the help of the Man in the Yellow Hat. For very young children George is a great audience surrogate who can illustrate the simple lesson of using less, recycling more. ( )

Summary: George loves to go to the science museum. When he finds out that the museum is planning a “Green Day” dedicated to recycling and planting trees George is curious and wants to help out! When George begins to find and recycle things around town that aren’t quite ready for the recycle bin, he gets into a jam. Thankfully, George isn’t the only one who wants to help—the whole community can’t wait to lend a hand—and help George and the museum plant some trees!
Critique: This book would be great to use on Earth Day. I liked how the book explained that reusing items at your house or donating them is just as important as recycling. It helps capture the importance of taking care of the Earth.
Craft Element: This book is a good way to introduce recycling and reusing. You could explain and model to students what you reuse and what you recycle. Then you could do an activity that has students sorting things that you recycle and things you reuse.

Another cute Curious George book. George learns all about the importance of recycling, and the importatnce of trees. George goes around town gathering things he thinks that would be useful in the community recycling project. here the people of the town follow George to the park to get their belongings back. In the end everyone ends up staying around and helps the plant some trees! ( )

Book description
Curious George the monkey goes to a science museum where he learns about how he can take care of the planet. He learns that trees help keep the air clean and learns of an upcoming Green Day where he will have the opportunity to plant trees and recycle. Curious George decides to go home and organize his belongings as well as other materials around the community that he thinks need to be recycled. In the end, George and his neighbors all contribute to the community by planting trees. This book would be great to use for a lesson about trees and recycling. It also shows six short steps about how to plant a tree.
