Pretty good book. I was not expecting what happened at the end. It ended extremely well but sad. It was a very well written book. Ended like I would expect a good movie to end, hero walking away into the sunset. It was a pretty gruesome book, there were lots of blood and lots of violence. This book was actually a sequel to [b:Covenant|4417603|Covenant|John Everson|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347261868s/4417603.jpg|4465767] written by John Everson as well, if you wanted to know how the story all started you should read the first one but you don't have too to understand what's going on. John does a pretty good job of getting you to understand what happened int the first one without really dragging it out too much. Like I said pretty freaking good book. ( )

Following on from the first entry - Covenant, Sacrifice sees Joe, now with a demon residing in his head, once more heading in to supernatural battle. Although this sounds like clever paranormal fiction, and it would be in the realm of Christopher Moore (funny) or Clive Barker (crafty), it's not in this novel. The short horror yarn is brimming with sexual sadism, where a budding young pyscho in a catsuit is dishing out sacrifices to usher forth the demons to our plane. It's trashy horror, easy to read and easy to forget. If you like your horror fast, furious, gory and perverse then you'll lap this up, however fresh and insightful fiction it isn't. ( )

Everson's sequel to his Stoker-winning debut novel COVENANT picks up shortly after Joe leaves the town of Terrel. Now living with the demon Malachai (that he allowed to enter his body to save the woman he loved), he meets up with a cute young runaway (Alex) who is able to see and talk to spirits, and together they travel cross-country, following a bloody path left by a savage female serial killer who is attempting to release a nasty, perverse race of demons known as "Curburide" into the world.

Although Malachai partially guides Joe and his new friend (and potential lover) Alex on their quest, time's running out, and young Alex quickly learns to use her witch-like powers to get them to the site of the killer's final sacrifice: (surprise, surprise!): Terrel. One chapter dealing with Alex's past is utterly horrific and heartbreaking, and Everson's frequent use of flashbacks don't slow the tale down for a second.

SACRIFICE is told at a brisk pace, is packed with extreme violence, unique ghosts, and an antagonist (Ariana) who just may be one of the most disturbing female characters to slash her way through a horror novel in many a bloody moon.

Perhaps a bit like an adult version of the classic cult film CARNIVAL OF SOULS, Everson has truly made his mark on the genre and is taking no prisoners; SACRIFICE is hardcore horror that passes its predecessor by bounds.

The squeamish need not apply. ( )

Book description
They're coming. They are a race of sadistic spirits known as the Curburide, and they are about to arrive in our world, bringing with them horrors beyond imagination. The secret to summoning -- and controlling -- them has fallen into the hands of a beautiful, sexy and dangerously insane woman.

Ariana has dedicated her life to unleashing the demons in our realm through a series of human sacrifices, erotic rituals of seduction and slaughter. As she crosses the country, getting ever closer to completing her blood-drenched mission, only three figures stand in her way: Joe, an unwilling hero who has seen the horrors of the Curburide before, Alex, a burgeoning witch ... and a spiteful demon with plans of his own.
