The drawings are absolutely amazing--so much information and emotion are conveyed with just a few pencil (charcoal?) marks! A regrettably accurate portrait of our society's view of disposable pets and how one particular disposable pet reacts to being disposed of.
The simple charcoal drawings, persistent white space, and lack of words of this book make the story of an abandoned dog that much more powerful. It is beautiful and heartbreaking and honest. I have not decided who I might share this with. To say that it is for older readers would be to deny that children have the capacity to deal with big emotions.
This is a truly disturbing and sad story book. It's not for every kid, especially not for the very young. A child who is old enough to understand the moral and ethical issues and to discuss those issues will benefit.
The story is without words but clear nonetheless. The very stark pencil drawings project raw emotion. A dog is tossed out of a car like a sack of trash. First it races after the car, desperate to catch up to its family. Finally the dog gives up and begins to wander, gets caught up in traffic, and is increasingly alone and dejected. The ending is (very) cautiously optimistic.
The plight of abandoned animals is a real one. It is important that children understand the great responsibility that comes along with owning any pet. show more This story will make that poin clear, but it is not for the truly tender hearted. show less

This book was original published as Un jour, un chien in French (which I realize doesn’t make much difference to a wordless book). It tells the story in charcoal sketches of a dog who was abandoned, gets into trouble while wondering and then makes a new friend. Sweet and well executed.
This book did not receive any awards. I would recommend this book for k-2 grades. This book is about a dog who gets separated from his owner who is driving in his car. The dog continues to look for his owners car. In doing so he causes an a huge accident. He walks many miles without seeing anyone. Then he walks through a town and is yelled at and told to go away. The dog finally find a boy walking home from school and is befriended by that boy who takes him home with him. This book could be used for cognitve skills. There are no words to the book, just sketch pictures. The children can work with the teacher to tell the story.
Disegni bellissimi, storia toccante.
I disegni sono davvero fatti da una disegnatrice dalle capacità sorprendenti.

Sad story and can show children why some dogs are strays.
