When a beautiful doctor butts heads with a laid-back mountain man, the spark is undeniable in this romance by the New York Times bestselling author.Dr. Emma Sinclair sharpened her skills in a fast-paced New York City ER. Now she's happy to spend a summer running her father's clinic in the Sierra Nevadas. In the quiet town of Wishful, California, Emma treats bee stings, stomach flu, and Stone Wilder—a patient who's almost as irritating as he is irresistible. Emma can't stand the way he show more laughs at her...or get enough of his mischievous grin.
As co-owner of Wilder Adventures and Expeditions, Stone knows how to treat a fish out of water. When he tries to help Emma loosen up, he pictures white-water rafting or scenic mountain hikes. He never bargained for an intimate encounter. While Emma is sure she has no place in a town like Wishful, Stone knows that belongs here—in this town, and in his life. Convincing her is a challenge he was born to take. show less

There’s something about this author’s writing I love so much. Many writers can be ‘hit or miss’, but for me Jill Shalvis is always a winner. Her writing is hilarious, light-hearted, and yet always manages to deal with major emotions and different relationships. This is the second book in the Wilder Brothers trilogy, and while it holds up nicely on its own, you should really read the books in order (you won’t regret it).
First of all, the cover is creepy. The other two Wilder Brothers covers are just great. But this one…if you see it in full size the guy has frightening black eyes like something from a science fiction movie. Don't let it turn you off, and when you read, make sure you imagine someone who isn't from Star Wars. show more
Big brother TJ, middle brother Stone and baby brother Cam run ‘Wilder Adventures’ in the Sierras. They take people on adventure trips of all kinds. This book is about Stone – the one who keeps everyone together and the one who takes on responsibility for everyone in his life. Emma Sinclair is a doctor from New York, and returns to her small mountain hometown to keep her father’s small practice going while the man recovers from a heart attack. She’s the absolute, complete opposite of Stone, and it’s hard work getting the two of them together.
Jill Shalvis writes contemporary romance – no suspense or paranormal stuff in sight. I love all genres, but straight contemporary is a subgenre I have trouble finding good books in. This series is especially great because you have so much fun while reading. Shalvis’ characters are never carbon copies of each other. Stone is an excellent businessman, great at restoring houses, fantastic at adventure sport. He’s also terrified of needles – he used superglue on a gash on his face so he wouldn’t need to get stitches. He’s so busy making plans for everyone else he’s run out of time to do the things he wants. But he’s determined to show Emma she might just be able to find a place of her own in the small community.
Emma is uptight – a serious planner – and has absolutely no idea about all the things that happened between her parents. She arrives in town full of assumptions about everybody and everything, and she has a lot of learning to do. She’s strong enough to admit when she’s wrong – which is quite the admirable quality in a heroine.
I absolutely adored the first book in the series, Instant Attraction – ditto for the third book, Instant Temptation. If you read one of these books you should read them all. They’re all self-contained stories, but there’s a lot more to this town to find out. This might be Jill Shalvis’ best series, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. show less

Dr. Emma Sinclair is back in Wishful, California, taking over her father's clinic while he recovers from a heart attack. She hasn't been back since her mother took her to New York City when she was six. She has only seen him a few times in her life. Her mother was determined that Emma would be a success in New York. But now her mother has died from cancer, leaving Emma bereft and lonely. However, that doesn't mean she wants to bury herself in Wishful. As soon as her father recovers, she's going to leave and never look back.
Stone Wilder is a co-owner of Wilder Adventures and Expeditions with his cousins. Stone has a totally different take on Emma's father and he knows things she doesn't. When he needs emergency medical attention, his show more brother brings him to Emma's clinic where they meet each other. Stone's needle phobia and conviction that all he needs is a band-aid gives Emma a bit of a challenge. But her tough as nails New York persona wins the day - and Stone's heart.
He doesn't have an easy task wooing Emma. She doesn't know how to relax and doesn't really want to learn. It takes all his efforts, and the efforts of other town people, to convince Emma to open up and give Wishful and her father a chance.
I enjoyed the characters in this one. Both are caretakers though Emma has managed to keep everything impersonal and keep herself isolated from emotion. I also liked the setting and the side characters and look forward to reading more of their stories. show less

Pretty good book. I loved Stone. He seemed pretty much perfect. Didn't like the heroine as much. I could have used more of her actually falling in love with Wishful instead of more wilderness dates. It seemed like the story had come to the climax then they went on another date. Those 30 or so pages would have been better used earlier on figuring out her relationship with her father or showing her adjusting to the town. Still a good second in the series. Anxious for TJ's story now.

This was good as well, but the description of the guy was a little too similar and repetitive, especially the : his Levi's had one whole on the knee, and on the other thigh...
Still, a quick, fun and sexy read.

I really liked this author at first, but now it's like I'm reading the same recycled plot lines, dialogue & phrasing over and over again. Probably didn't help that I started with her newer books and worked my way backward...
Instant Gratification by Jill Shalvis
Emma St. Clair is the doctor in the emergency care in Wishfull, CA. This family saga is about Stone. His other brothers, The Wilder brothers operate the lodge and offer extreme sports tours. They each have their own book.
Everybody had a bear story but she was yet to see one. She has temporarily taken over her father's practice. They were opposites.
Victorian house is converted so she can live where she works. Stone arrives and thinks he just needs a band aid. Cam and TJ, his brothers, spent time out of town.
She is a city girl and is very bored. They run the outdoor adventure business. He just wants the band-aid and she needs to stitch him back together.
We also get to catch up with his brothers and show more their love interests. Stone and Emma each are physically attracted to one another and know they are off limits-no hands, ever.
Stone takes her up the mountain to help deliver the baby...Spence, a doctor friend of Emma's is there for a bit of relaxation and he ends up finding a love interest but he lives in NY and she is in town.
Lot of hot sex scenes and innuendo. Over time she learns about her real father and how her mother kept her away from him. She also learns more about the work Stone does, orphaned children that he
takes on climbs, etc. Her father informs her of his health and that he might want to just sell the practice...
She also learns who paid for her college years and thinks she may have to confront them about the money... She has so many choices and options to choose from...
Loved the hiking and nature. show less

What a great series! The character development is fantastic! She does a great job of showing the struggles that the character has to contend with.
