Description

The city of Norwich is dominated by its Norman castle, its cathedral, and large flint city walls, parts of which are still visible today. Originally published in 1994, this superb book presents a good overview of the development of the city from its pre-urban days, through the fundamental changes brought by the Normans and the thriving medieval commercial center, through to darker days during the Black Death and Reformation and finally up to the modern period.

A detailed account of the history of Norwich mainly told through its archaeology and architecture. It tells the story of a city that begins on either side of the River Wensum that grows to such a big town it was known as 'England's Second City.' As I am from Norwich I particularly find it interesting reading about the development and then noticing parts while visiting the city.
