Only the mice know the who’s, what’s, where’s, when’s, and how’s of the secret circus set “deep in the city of Paris.” Illustrated with a rich, warm palette of earth tones, this picture book uses simple yet colorful black-line drawings to convey a jovial story about a miniature world known only to anthropomorphized mice. Pops of somewhat muted shades of red contrast the predominately green and brown background, drawing the eye to key features of the artwork. Textures and patterns, particularly dots and circles, enhance the modest scenes with a subtle and subterranean complexity that may not be initially appreciated. The minimal, repetitive text establishes the premise for scenes and actions displayed in alternating single- show more and double-page spreads. Paired with an enthusiastic adult reader, toddlers and young children will delight in the magic and wonder of such a big event orchestrated entirely by the smallest of endearing characters. show less
A truly adorable book about a mouse circus. The artwork is fantastic and, well, adorable.
The story here is simple and a little scant, but very charming, and the illustrations are wonderful.
