Second-grader Keena loves to write in her journal—about her family, her run in the student council election, and most exciting of all, her class trip to the Capitol in Washington D.C.! Unfortunately, Keena’s jealousy of one of her classmates gets in the way, and she makes a big mistake during the field trip. Keena’s antics are kid-relatable, but sometimes her predicaments come across as formulaic. Still, over the course of the book, youngsters will feel for Keena and will learn about being a good sport and forgiving others. Written as a series of journal entries, the format of the book lends to the personal feel. Scattered illustrations will help young readers visualize Keena and all of her activities and experiences.
