After enjoying Nathan's Run so much (which was Gilstrap's first book), I just had to try another. This is the first of his series featuring Jonathan Grave, a hostage rescuer for hire. This book follows a more traditional thriller format w/ the ex-military hero, his trusty, very accomplished sidekick, a female tech genius and a priest for a best friend. With this intriguing mix of characters, the story moves quickly through a kidnap rescue and the requisite screw ups and recovery, some mystery, some great bad guys, etc. Bits of back story are revealed which help flesh out these interesting characters. I liked it so much, I'm on to the next......
Good new series for me, featuring Jonathan Grave, a hostage rescue specialist who will do whatever is necessary to complete his mission, and more, if necessary. This one starts on high octane and never lets up. Hired to rescue a college-aged kid, Grave (a/k/a Scorpion) along with his sidekick Boxers (a/k/a Big Guy), he is drawn into a case involving his ex-wife, her investigative reporter beau, and the college kid's family, which cannot afford his freelancing talents. Of course, there is a much more serious plot, which Grave unravels while being chased by am ex-FBI, local cop where he eliminated the kidnappers. Looking forward to reading more.
Jonathan Grave is hired to rescue a kidnap victim. As he does his job, he steps into a world of unforeseen trouble. The plot is fast-paced, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. The characters are unique and make you care about what happens in their lives. There are lots of bloody scenes and at times Gilstrap might be stretching believability just a little. However, such is the nature of fiction. By mid-story I was so hooked that I stayed up half the night to finish.
A young man is kidnapped and Jonathan "Digger" Grave is hired to rescue him, which he does. However, the reason for his kidnapping turns out to be a much bigger problem as a series of gruesome murders are linked and the local sheriff where the rescue takes place turns out to be a formidable opponent. This is a great action thriller that never gets boring to the last page.

I had never read John Gilstrap or met Jonathan Grave before I received this book as a freebie from Amazon. I have just become a major fan. With a couple of exceptions, the characters were well developed. The plot was great with plenty of twists. I will definitely be reading more from this author and have already purchased the second book in the Jonathan Grave series.
This is the first book by John Gilstrap I have read.
I was hooked by the first chapter. This is a action packed book from start to finish.

When an Indiana college student is kidnapped Jonathan Grave is called in. When Jonathan"s plan for covert rescue explodes into a deadly shooting spree the authorities are out for blood, Someone wants to control a deadly secret and that someone is willing to capture, torture and kill anyone who gets in the way. Jonathan, Venice, Boxer and Dom all people you want on your side.

Will definitely be reading Hostage Zero the next in the series.
A page-turner of a thriller. Jonathan "Digger" Grave is a hero one can root for, and he and his cohorts at Security Solutions face down truly villainous villains in this outing. The rescue of a college student leaves three dead kidnappers, and Jonathan is suddenly faced with the dark forces behind the kidnapping, as well as the determined pursuit of a local sheriff who rises above her limitations to seek justice. Excellent book.
I too received this as a freebie from Amazon for my kindle and read it in a single sitting. Jonathan Grave and Boxers are too of my favorite new characters. I will actively seek out new books by this author!
