As any pet lover will tell you, the loss of their beloved companion is marked with grief, but is unfortunately an inevitable fact of life. Here Perez and Lacombe set out to create a book for young adults to help negotiate this difficult passage. Containing poems about 15 dogs and how they met their end in what are sometimes funny, quirky or outright bizarre circumstances which bring to mind the macabre humour of a Tim Burton or Edward Gorey, the last few pages invite the reader to write his or her own stories about dearly beloved departed pets. Accompanied with black and white illustrations by Lacombe, it's a strange little book, filled with humour and tenderness. ( )
