The young narrator of this sweet, heartwarming picture-book tribute to mothers describes his own mom's many wonderful qualities, from her skills as cook and juggler to her butterfly-like beauty and armchair-like comfiness. He concludes with the declaration that he loves his mom, and that she loves him, and always will...
Originally published in the UK as My Mum, this lovely picture-book is a companion to Anthony Browne's earlier My Dad, and is formatted in much the same way. A series of descriptions of the narrator's mom is paired with imaginative artwork depicting her as various animals and objects. In the scene in which the child describes his mother as having the beauty of a butterfly, for instance, she appears in that form, as a show more butterfly with the same print design as the shirt mom is wearing on other pages. Visually striking and textually engaging, My Mom is a book I would recommend to anyone looking for reassurance tales for younger children - yes, mother will always love you - or for stories about mothers in general. show less

A sister book to [b:My Dad|1239339|My Dad|Anthony Browne|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316636893s/1239339.jpg|1228003]. Author [a:Anthony Browne's|35335|Anthony Browne|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1272902188p2/35335.jpg] children's books are quite special, to say the least, and sometimes I'm even a little baffled by them. [b:My Mom|109416|My Mom|Anthony Browne|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1311981303s/109416.jpg|105444] and [b:My Dad|1239339|My Dad|Anthony Browne|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1316636893s/1239339.jpg|1228003] are easy to relate to though, and this one was a pleasant read, made even more pleasant by the fact that my four year old read it out loud for me. It didn't make him laugh the way I would have expected though. This show more book would also pair well with [b:Quick as a Cricket|815263|Quick as a Cricket|Audrey Wood|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347568354s/815263.jpg|1611721], about the many guises a child can take on ... show less
This is a great children’s book following up on the author’s first similar story, My Dad. It’s narrated by a child who’s loves their mom. He goes on to tell a lot of characteristics about his mom. The crayon illustrations perfectly display everything he describes. This would be great for kids to read on mother’s day. I like how the book uses lots of metaphors to describe the mom like she is soft and cuddly, is a magical fairy in a floral robe, and turns into a superhero in a floral cape. The story is easy to read, full of bright colors, and the illustrations are simple and perfect.

I thought this book was cute. I liked this book because it shows a child’s appreciation for their mom. For example, “She’s a great painter, and the STRONGEST woman in the world! She’s really nice, my mom.” In that example the child shows their appreciation by acknowledging that their mom is a great painter and strong woman. Another example of the child showing appreciation is “…And she makes me laugh. A lot. I love my mom. And you know what? SHE LOVES ME! (And she always will.)” This example shows that the child appreciates that their mom can make them laugh and loves them. Another reason why I like this book is because every illustration in the book has the same floral pattern hidden in the picture. For example, on the show more page 3 the mom’s robe is designed in the floral pattern and on page 12 the kitten’s bowtie is designed with the same floral pattern. I think it is really cool when the illustrator decides to use the same patterns or colors because it connects the story together and gives the reader something to look forward to on each page. Another example of the floral pattern is on page 14 the mom’s astronaut uniform and on page 16 the mom’s tie. The big message of the story is there is nothing better than a mothers’ love and every kid appreciates their mother for who she is. show less
Cute book about a child's adoration and love for his Mum. A book covering the theme that most people can relate to. He keeps the story simple, and focuses on the larger that life stylised illustrations that are playful and beautiful.
My mom was about how much a little boy loves his mom. He loves his mom because he's really young and there's a lot that he knows that she can do. He thinks the world of his mom, his mom is his everything. It's definitely the perspective of the little kid because she can make him happy with being a fairy, being strong, being a good painter.
