Men in Love

Description

An extraordinary, explicitly masculine journey, Men In Love develops a startlingly honest portrayal of what it means to be a man in contemporary America. Here are the unexpurgated dreams, fantasies and fetishes that excite and obsess men today. In creating this historic study, Nancy Friday listened -- without disapproval, apology or censorship -- to the candid responses of thousands of men aged fourteen through sixty. She gave them a legitimate arena where they could share their "secret show more gardens" -- the hidden and forbidden but nonetheless real and true. Much more than a litany of erotica, this unique volume doesn't tell us how men should love. It tells us how men do love -- a stunning insight into the desires that dwell within men's psyches... and their hearts. show less

Nancy Friday take a very liberal view of mens sexaulity as evinced from her making room for them to express the inexpressible in her book.
Thus she feels the need to preface each different type of fantasy from screwing your mum to group sex with a piece introducing what you are about to read.
A very useful if disturbing book in parts for us women who seek to understand what the hell is going on in our male friends heads.
Very interesting in parts, thought provoking, but to be honest (and I am very liberal), some parts are just disturbing. The chapters on animals and oedipal complexes are just disturbing to me. I really hope beyond reason that the men that wrote in about their actual experiences were really just fantasizing. I am okay with fantasies, but there are some things that would just be wrong to act out. I tried to look at it without my ethnocentric world view, but could not.
I rated this low because it is dated. It may have been more relevant back when it was written, but now--not so much. Some things haven't changed, but the author takes a very Freudian approach to analyze the fantasies that men have sent to her.
Not as good as her books on female fantasies. I especially didn't really care for the S&M chapter. But overall it's still a very interesting and fascinating read.

For me this is about the range and depth of the sexual imagination and the joy and pain of sex and sexuality. And that as Kinsey showed sexual (and sexuality) boundaries are not as clear-cut as the moralists would have it be. Friends/ Quakers have long held the line that it’s the quality of the relationship that matters not the who and what’s of the relationships. It was within the context of gay relationships but if the master and slave is happy…. And if you understand that imagination and reality are not the same and you can accept my fantasies and I yours then another wall falls away from us. What we do as consenting adults as long as no exploitation of minors and animals is ok with me, Is it with you?
Net startende met de ontdekking hoe lekker het is om boeken te lezen welke gaan over de erotische fantasien. Dit boek was gewoon leuk en informatief om te lezen dat er toch veel verschillende mensen de sex op een andere manier beleven.
