Very little has been published in English about early Acadia (which once included all of Nova Scotia and part of the Maine coast), but it is a rich story peopled by memorable men and women whose exploits make fascinating reading. This well-written history takes us up to 1755, when the British governor forcibly expelled the French Acadians. Today their descendants in Maine, Canada, and Louisiana are actively recovering their heritage.
