Description

A powerful novel of jungle warfare based on T. A. G. Hungerford's experiences as a commando on the island of Bougainville towards the end of the Second World War. The story follows an Australian patrol of a dozen men sent to reconnoitre a Japanese position. After two of the Australians are injured, the patrol must find a way back to base, through the hostile jungle, evading the Japanese and ensuring their wounded reach safety.
