A Brother Athelstan historical mystery by Paul Doherty, originally written under the name of Paul Harding. A group of knights are being killed by various methods and Sir John Cranston the London Coroner who is assisted by Athelstan investigate. In fact the Brother does most of the investigation and indeed the solving of the case. (this is not over difficult I would have thought) There are also a large number of cats disappearing,to the dismay of the locals, and (a minor point) there is a devil abroad too.
A rather pedestrian tale with an equally pedestrian solution. Saying this,it is quite a quick readable book.
