Vinland Saga, Volume 1

For fans of Robert Eggers' The Northman or the TV series, Vikings, Vinland Saga, is a high-caliber historical fiction manga that follows slightly similar plot threads to that of Eggers' Northman & the TV series, Vikings.

What's it about? Thorfinn was raised on the stories of the great Leif Ericson, who told tales of a land where slavery doesn’t exist...Vinland. Thorfinn dreamed of going to Vinland, but his dreams were shattered by a raid of Viking mercenaries. Now Thorfinn is being raised by the very Viking mercenaries who killed his parents, they are lead by Askeladd. Thorfinn is an excellent fighter, but he is still a boy. He constantly seeks to defeat Askeladd in a duel, but has yet to succeed. Thorfinn is sustained by dreams of show more somehow escaping his current situation and finding Vinland.

The manga is a cinematic journey, one that is captivating and reads quite quickly. It is actioned packed and full of tremendous detail and the drama! The drama of Thorfinn losing his father, and his constant dreaming and scheming to escape his situation makes for compelling reading.

Un manga histórico con muy buen dibujo y acción muy bien narrada. El argumento me parece algo tópico, pero me gusta como Yukimura compone las páginas.

Absolut cool. Das fasst diesen Manga am besten zusammen.
Es geht schon voller Action mit einem Gefecht los, das im Vergleich mit anderen Mangas wirklich lang geht und verschiedene Seiten präsentiert, dabei aber nicht langweilig oder eintönig wird. Der Zeichenstil ist absolut hervorragend und die Story auch in der Darstellung schonungslos. Man kann viele Details sehen und entdeckt eigentlich immer wieder irgendwas neues in den Panels. Was mir auch gut gefällt ist, dass die Charaktere nicht unnötig viel schwafeln und es zugleich nicht unnötig viel Erklärungen braucht. Der Mangaka schafft es mit Bild und Text ausreichend alles zu transportieren, was man wissen muss. Natürlich gibt es am Schluss noch zusätzlich ein paar Fakten zum show more Thema, aber es ist hier einfach wirklich gut aufgebaut.

Wenn man nicht abkann, dass auch mal Körperteile unabhängig vom Körper fliegen lernen, sollte man die Geschichte eher nicht lesen. Ist das kein Problem hat man hier einen wirklich tollen Manga um Wikinger und Überfälle mit großem Unterhaltungswert. Natürlich geht es nicht ausschließlich um Gewalt, Raub und Tot, denn wir befinden und zum einen nicht nur in der Gegenwart von Thorfinn, sondern auch in dessen Vergangenheit als Kind. Überhaupt besteht natürlich auch die Gegenwart nicht ausschließlich aus Kämpfen, sondern bietet noch ein wenig mehr.

Für mich ein hervorragender Manga mit viel Potential bei der Fortsetzung. Ich für meinen Teil will unheimlich gern wissen, wie es weitergeht. Gerade mit diesen zwei Zeitebenen ist es unheimlich spannend, da man einen tollen Einblick in Thorfinn und seine Entwicklung bekommt.
