Description
Murder on a Bad Hair Day. It's hard to believe practical, petite ex-schoolteacher Patricia Anne and amiable, ample-bodied, and outrageous Mary Alice are sisters, yet sibling rivalry has survived decades of good-natured disagreement about everything from husbands to hair color. No sooner do the Southern sisters discover a common interest in some local art, when they're arguing the artistic merits of some well-coiffured heads at a gallery opening. A few hours later, one of those pretty ladies show more ends up dead -- with not a hair out of place. The other shows up on Patricia Anne's doorstep dazed, disheveled, and telling a wild tale of a narrow escape from some deadly cuts. Now the sisters are once again combing for clues to catch a killer with a bizarre style in art -- and murder. show lessTags

Patricia Anne and Mary Alice are sisters who live in Alabama. This second in the series finds them attending the opening of a local art gallery with one of the owners turning up dead soon after. Of course, they dive into the scandal when one of Patricia Anne's past students and employee of the art gallery shows up on her doorstep in disarray.
I had my first experience with these Southern sisters almost 4 years ago. I thought it was good, but this time around - it was much better. I loved these ladies. They had me grinning, smiling, giggling and all out laughing! I just loved their snippy squabbles and bickering banter. There was also Patricia Anne's playful quibbling with her husband, Fred. And yes, there was a cozy mystery that moved show more the plot along that was okay. It seemed more like a backdrop for the sisters playground. I won't be waiting 4 years to read the next in this series - this was just too delightful to wait that long! (4.25/5)

This series is so much fun. This time out Sister (Mary Alice) and Mouse (Patricia Ann) sixty-something sisters in Alabama stumble into another murder mystery. This time an art gallery owner dies shortly after a showing of "Outsider" Alabama art. Outsider art is a passion of Mouse (our narator and retired teacher) and Sister. They get drawn into the investigation because of the involvement of one of Mouse's former students who works at the gallery. What with murders, missing persons, sick cats and Christmas around the corner, the sisters will keep you in stitches.
Actually, the big mystery is the cover. Even though there is a lot of hair discussion, no one ever actually sets foot in a salon. Go figure.

this is the second book in the series and the third one I've read.
In this one, the ladies attend the grand opening of a new art gallery in the
industrial section of Birmingham filled with colorful primitive art done by
local artisans. A few hours later, the gallery owner ends up dead, and her
assistant turns up on Patricia Anne's back step, barefoot and in shock,
claiming to have run from a would-be murderer in her apartment. Now that
Mouse has been dragged into the fray, she teams up with Sister to get to the
bottom of this and figure out just who it is that has it in for these women.
The story line in this one was good, a little contrived at the end, though,
and I didn't see it coming so it was a little incongruous. But it was still show more
a good tale and a quick read. It gets a firm 4. I like this series. show less

I continue to find this series on audiobook rather delightful to listen to in the car. The banter between the two sisters is fun, and I enjoy the taste of Alabama without having to move back.
The elderly southern sisters are quite interesting characters as far as "sleuthing" goes. While the murderer wasn't obvious, the explanation is terrible. I won't spoil it, but if you've read up on it, you'd know why.
This is the second book of the series I have read. Although I enjoyed the book, I am getting a little tired of the characters in the books. But for a prop your feet up and drink a cup of coffee type of book it fit the bill.
The cover art did confuse me somewhat. The sisters (or anyone) does not go to the hairdresser together. And if it was supposed to depict the main characters of the book, the blond one should have been a "big and beautiful" type of woman.

I like the Southern Sister mysteries for quick, easy reads, with some nice humor in them. Read this on the trip out to California.
