Carol Collier's returned to philosophical full-time in the 1990s after twenty or so years in the public service. Her interest in the philosophical questions of mind-body dualism lead to her doctoral thesis on philosophical approaches to (and often neglect of) the human body, focusing on Descartes legacy as it manifests itself in the modern Western show more conception of the body-machine. She has developed and taught a course on the body-machine, exploring how it came to find philosophical legitimacy, and looking at the trends that suggest that the body-machine is no longer merely a metaphor but a reality. show less
